Anna Karolina Schmiedlova v Katie Boulter Head to Head

The two players have met just once on the tour, in the 2018 WTA Southsea quarterfinal. Boulter won that match 6-2, 6-0.

Schmiedlova Fresh off a Quarterfinal Run

The 26-year-old Slovakian is coming in this match after a fairly decent performance in the WTA Guadalajara last week. She reached the quarterfinal there to deliver the best performance of the season so far. While she fell to the number 2 seed Marie Bouzkova, that run gave her some good momentum to hopefully continue that performance in Mexico, this time in Monterrey.

In the Australian Open, Schmiedlova had a decent time as reached the second round as a qualifier. If anything, that run was a repeat of her game in the Gippsland Trophy where she lost in the second round to Ekaterina Alexandrova.

Currently ranked World No. 117, Schmiedlova is playing with protected ranking – the same as Boulter. She is looking to reach her first singles final since the 2019 Hobart International.

Last season was less than eventful for the Slovak. In the many events she participated in, the best she delivered was reaching the third round in the French Open. She was also a quarterfinalist in another event – the WTA 125K Series event in Prague.

Boulter Looking to Shake off Defeats

The 24-year-old Katie Boulter has lot her opening-round games in her last two tournaments – the Phillip Island Trophy and Australian Open. In both cases, she was beaten by Daria Kasatkina.

The Brit will now look to break that jinx and secure the first-match win in Monterrey. However, it will be easier said than done, given that Boulter has never been among the consistent or formidable players.

However, Boulter has had her moments in the past. Most notably, she reached the third round in the WTA 500 event in Melbourne where she beat the likes of Anna Kalinskaya and Cori Gauff before falling to Naomi Osaka. Moreover, towards the end of the last season, she was a runner-up in the ITF $15,000 event in Egypt.

Boulter has always been among those players who alternate between the ITF and WTA circuits. She has had some success in the former but not a lot to show for in the latter.

Schmiedlova v Boulter Prediction and Tip

Even though Schmiedlova may not be in a good form right now, she has still enjoyed a better run of things than her British adversary. Expect the Slovak to win this match.

Tip: Schmiedlova to win: 8/13 (bet365)
