Heather Watson vs Danka Kovinic Head to Head

The two players have never met before on the WTA Tour.

Watson in With a Mediocre Performance

Watson’s win-loss tally for the season is 2-3 with her last event being the Australian Open. The Brit had a less than eventful time in Melbourne as she lost in the second round in the grand slam and first round in the Grampians Trophy.

It was a similar story for her in the WTA Abu Dhabi too where she was beaten by Ekaterina Alexandrova in the second round itself.

Currently, she is World No. 64 but hasn’t had the most promising of the runs in quite some time now. The last time Heather Watson was in a WTA event final was last year in the WTA Acapulco, where she won the title after beating Leylah Fernandez in the final.

Following that title run, the 28-year-old moved on to lose her opening matches in six events consecutively, including the US Open and French Open.

Watson hasn’t been among the most consistent singles player on the tour. With no discernible success in the last few months (and a general lack of momentum), she finds herself playing in the perfect tournament to make amends for it all.

Kovinic Looking to Add Some Wins in Mexico

Last week, Kovinic played in the WTA Abierto Guadalajara where she reached the second round, losing to Lauren Davis. Nonetheless, that win was still better than her run in the preceding tournaments where she lost in the first round itself.

In the Australian Open and the Phillip Island Trophy, the 26-year-old Montenegrin succumbed to Ashleigh Barty and Marie Bouzkova respectively. The same was the story in the WTA Abu Dhabi where she lost to Karolina Muchova in round one. Kovinic did, however, reach round two of the Gippsland Trophy.

Considering her recent performance on the tour, Kovinic hasn’t had a lot of success in quite some time. The last time she reached a singles final on the tour was in the 2016 Istanbul Cup. As for her best run last season, the best she could do was reaching the third round in the Italian Open as a qualifier, moving past Julia Goerges and Belinda Bencic.

Kovinic also reached the quarterfinal in Istanbul a few weeks prior to that.

Watson v Kovinic Prediction and Tip

This is one of those matches that can very well go either way. Neither of the two players has had a good run of late although Kovinic has kept herself busier than her British counterpart. However, it is yet to be seen if that will translate into a win for her.

Tip: Over 19.5 games in the match: 1/1 (bet365)
