Tauson in a Brilliant Form

Clara Tauson may be just 18-years-old but she is definitely playing an experienced professional on the tour at the moment. Her win-loss record for the season is an impressive 19-3 so far, which also includes her maiden singles title.

The Danish is playing tennis with a prodigious amount of confidence and discipline, making it a matter of time before she cracks the top 50. Tauson started the season with a couple of ITF $25,000 title wins in the UAE and Germany to prepare for the season. Even though she fell in the opening qualifying round in the Australian Open, Tauson emerged from her defeat and moved on to win her first title.

The breakthrough came in Lyon where she first reached the main draw after winning her two qualifying games. Then, she beat the veteran players like Ekaterina Alexandrova and Timea Babos to reach the quarterfinal. There she dispatched Camila Giorgi and Paula Badosa to ultimately reach the final.

Tauson beat Viktorija Golubic in the final to clinch her maiden WTA trophy – the same player she beat in the ITF Final in UAE a few weeks ago.

Up until now, the Danish teenager had spent most of her time on the ITF circuit with a few WTA events here and there. But this season, it seems like she wants to broaden her exposure by playing the best of the best. Given her recent form, she is definitely on track to put up a good show.

Kasatkina Looking to Reclaim Her Former Glory

Daria Kasatkina started her 2019 season as World No. 10 but by the end of the year, she had fallen out of the top 50 on the back of a mediocre season.

The 23-year-old Russian spent the last season making amends for her form but the end results were mixed. Her best performances were reaching the semifinal in the Lyon Open and third round in the Italian Open.

In 2021, Kasatkina has already bettered her previous season by winning her first title since 2018. After a third-round stint in the Gippsland Trophy and a second-round showing in the Australian Open, the Russian featured in the Phillip Island Trophy. The World No. 61 won that WTA 250 title, beating the likes of Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, Petra Martic, Danielle Collins, and Marie Bouzkova.

However, in a stark reversal of form, Kasatkina next played in the WTA Dubai and lost her first-round match to Alize Cornet.

Tauson v Kasatkina Prediction and Tip

Tauson is young and inexperienced but has got a lot of momentum. On the other hand, Kasatkina has some experience and her recent form is not all that bad either. This should prove to be an entertaining affair with many games in the offering.

Tip: Over 19.5 games in the match: 5/6 (bet365)
