Filip Krajinovic v Alejandro Davidovich Fokina Head to Head

The pair have never met before. This will be the first match between the 25-year old Serb, and the Spaniard, who is four years younger.

Krajinovic is playing just his third tournament of the year so far, with his season beginning at the Australian Open, where for the second time, he got to the third round, That matched his best ever performance in a Grand Slam event.

Then he met Daniil Medvedev, the world number four, and he put up a spirited fight, coming from two sets down to level the match. Unfortunately for him, fatigue got the better of him and he lost the last set to love.

He did not play again for nearly a month, reappearing on tour in Doha, where his participation was over almost before it started, beaten in the first round by David Goffin.

A break of serve in each set was enough for Goffin to get the job done and Krajinovic can have no complaints with the result – he never once threatened the Belgian’s serve.

He received a bye in the first round in Dubai.

Spaniard Hoping to Progress in Dubai

The young Spaniard is one of those players who decided to give Australia a miss this year, rather than subject themselves to the mandatory quarantine beforehand.

Instead he remained in Europe, choosing to play in the Challenger event in Biella.

His first ATP event of the year was in Montpellier, where he got to the third round before losing to Egor Gerasimov of Belarus.

Subsequently he lost in the second round in both Rotterdam and Marseille.

In the first round here in Dubai he met Radu Albot of Moldova, who qualified as a lucky loser.

Davidovich-Fokina broke the Moldovan early, but then the first set became scrappy, with a sequence of four games against serve, at the end of which the Spaniard took the first set.

Both men tightened up their games after that, and there was only one break of serve in the second set, and it went to the Spaniard. From there on he was able to control the rest of the match.

Although Krajinovic is the higher ranked player, Davidovich-Folina is tipped to win this match based on recent form.

It might be close though, and could go to three sets.,
