Marie Bouzkova v Arantxa Rus Head to Head

This will be the second match on the WTA circuit and third if one includes the $125k tournament in Hua Hin in 2017. Overall, it’s 1-1 on head to head with Bouzkova having won the Hua Hin encounter and Rus coming back to defeat her opponent in Acapulco in 2018.

Bouzkova Aiming to Get to Career-Best

This is just the second time that Bouzkova will be participating in Miami with her last appearance ending in the qualifying rounds of the competition in 2019. And she enters this tournament with the kind of form that should give her a lot of confidence going into the rest of the season.

Ranked a spot behind her career-best of 46th, Bouzkova looks to have shrugged off her opening round defeat at the Australian Open with back to back solid showings since.

At the Phillip Island Trophy, a tournament which ran concurrently with the second week of the Australian Open, Bouzkova overcame Jil Teichmann and Bianca Andreescu to enter the final where she lost to Daria Kasatkina.

And then she made it all the way through to the semifinal at the Guadalajara Open a couple of weeks ago where she finally fell to the eventual champion Sara Sorribes Tormo.

Can she now begin with a bang here and push on through deep enough to help her break into the top 40 of the rankings for the first time? She starts things off here against an experienced but struggling Rus.

Rus Desperate for Wins

Things haven’t been looking very good on court for Rus. Having participated in five tournaments so far this season, Rus has won just one match, a win that came against the 135th-ranked Xiyu Wang in the first round of the Lyon Open.

Other than that Rus has lost five matches including one to Wang herself and crashed out in the first rounds of four other tournaments. More recently, last week, Rus lost to Ann Li at Monterrey and comes here with just three sets won all season.

This follows a struggling latter half of the previous season as well where the best Rus could do is second round of competitions at four of the tournaments but not beyond. That said, she would still prefer those kind of results as compared to the mire she finds herself in right now.

Looks like her troubling times could extend for a little while.

Bouzkova v Rus Prediction and Tip

This looks all too easy for Bouzkova who starts off a huge favourite to win in straight sets. Backing that result.

Tip: Bouzkova to win in straight sets: 4/5 (bet365)
