Simona Halep v Caroline Garcia Head to Head
This has been a long-standing but one-sided rivalry in women’s tennis. Other than the China Open final of 2017 where Garcia managed to shock Halep in straight sets to win the title, six other matches have been played between these two players and won by Halep.
Most recently, they faced off in a Fed Cup match in 2019 where Halep needed three sets to get past Garcia. On the WTA tour, their latest encounter came at the 2018 Montreal Open and Halep had been a straight-set winner to proceed to the semifinal.

It’s been more than five weeks since Halep last lifted a tennis racquet in anger. Having made it to the quarterfinal of the Australian Open, the Romanian had been ousted in straight sets by Serena Williams but more vitally suffered fitness issues because of which she had to miss a few of the tournaments in between.
How she manages to get herself back on track, especially having been out of action for that long will make for an interesting watch.
Because form-wise, Halep’s not had it too difficult and while she did lose to Ekaterina Alexandrova in the only other tournament she played in before the season’s first Grand Slam, she is also coming off a solid 2020.
Despite not winning a single Grand Slam title, Halep ended the previous season with a 23-3 win-loss record that included three WTA titles – in Dubai, Prague and Rome. This could be her chance to go the distance yet again.

Garcia Ousts Buzarnescu
An hour and six minutes is all that Garcia needed to get past Mihaela Buzarnescu in her opening round match here in Miami.
She won 6-1, 6-2 in a one-sided encounter which saw the Frenchwoman get herself four breaks of serves and in return, Garcia faced not a single break-point. In both the sets, Garcia attacked Buzarnescu’s serve early, breaking in the very first game and in turn not allowing her to settle down.
By the time her Romanian opponent had a chance, the set was long lost.
Garcia had earlier made it as far as the third round at the WTA Dubai with wins over Angelique Kerber and Martina Trevisan to show she still belonged at the top. Unfortunately for Garcia, her lack of consistency has been an issue which can be seen from her 6-6 win-loss record in the lead-up to this tournament.
It would require Halep to have a really off day for Garcia to have a chance.
Halep v Garcia Prediction and Tip
This seems to be an easy one for Halep but for her lack of tennis in recent times. Which is why we believe 1/4 is rather short for the multiple-time Grand Slam winner and we could see her getting stretched a little here.
