Nao Hibino v Francesca Di Lorenzo Head to Head
This would be the third meeting between Hibino and Di Lorenzo on the WTA tour, with both players winning a match apiece in the past.
While it was Di Lorenzo, who trumped Hibino in straight sets in their maiden encounter in Berkeley in 2018, Hibino got her revenge the following year as she came from behind to defeat the American 4-6, 7-5, 6-3 in the Oracle Challenger Series in Indian Wells.

Without an iota of doubt, we can easily claim that Hibino is supremely talented. In fact, when the Japanese is on a roll, she can beat the best of players quite comfortably. Case in point is her consecutive victories over former US Open champion Sloane Stephens and former French Open winner Jelena Ostapenko in Strasbourg last year.
However, the problem is, Hibino has hardly found any sort of momentum in his game in 2021. With a miserable 2-6 win/loss record in 2021, she hasn’t posed any threat at all to her opponents.
With wins hard to come by, Hibino has her task cut out even against players, who are ranked well outside the top-150.
The good thing, though, is that she has finally won a match after a long time. But, the 26-year-old from Aichi in Japan was fortunate to win her first round clash against countrywoman Misaki Doi as her rival pulled out midway through their encounter due to an injury.
The truth is that Doi had the upper hand in the contest, but as the match progressed, she started to feel unwell and couldn’t complete the match. In the end, Hibino moved into the round of 16 to face Di Lorenzo for a place in the last 8 of the tournament.

Di Lorenzo Finally Wins Her First Match This Season
While Hibino’s poor run is well documented, her rival Di Lorenzo’s record in 2021 is even worse. Before winning her first match of the year in Charleston, the American has lost four consecutive matches. In fact, she is not all expected to put up a fight against Hibino, but with the Japanese standing on a shaky ground, she would believe she has a fair chance of defeating her, if she plays well.
Unexpectedly, Di Lorenzo was quite impressive during her opening round victory over compatriot Kristie Ahn on Tuesday.
What held Di Lorenzo in good stead against Ahn was her ability to turn things around, possibly when she badly needed the momentum to swing her way. With neither player giving an inch, the first set proceeded to a tiebreaker, where Di Lorenzo held her nerve before claiming a one set lead in the match.
The second set turned out to be a far easier affair as Ahn wasn’t able to forget the ignominy of losing the first set. Indeed, she quickly wilted under the immense pressure that was being put on her by Di Lorenzo and ultimately went on to lose the contest by a 7-6,6-2 scoreline.
Hibino v Di Lorenzo Prediction and Tip
Not surprisingly, it’s Hibino who starts off as the favourite to win the match. Unless, Di Lorenzo plays out of her skin, we expect Hibino to move into the quarterfinals with a straightforward two-set win.
