Federico Coria v Nikola Milojevic Head to Head

Both their previous meetings have come on the Challenger circuit, on clay and in 2019. Interestingly, Milojevic won both those matches in straight sets to take a 2-0 lead over Coria.

Coria on a Four-Match Losing Streak

A semifinalist at the Cordoba Open, Coria looked to be back at his best on his most preferred surface but things haven’t gone his way since then.

That defeat in the last four stage at the hands of Juan Manuel Cerundolo has been followed by just one win and five defeats spread over five tournaments. And this includes four defeats on clay from five matches.

For a player who relies so heavily on clay – he has played a sum total of 31 matches on non-clay surfaces across his career as compared to over 750 on clay – Coria would have definitely wanted to do better than that.

What would bother Coria even more is most of those losses have come in matches where the opponent hasn’t started off as a favourite.

Milojevic Ruling on the Challenger Circuit

Since getting knocked out of the Australian Open qualifiers early in January, Milojevic has been associated with only clay and featured in six such tournaments across the Challenger and ATP main circuit.

He kick-started the clay swing with a semifinal appearance at the Gran Canaria Challenger and then won the title at the Zadar Challenger, his first such title since 2019. What’s interesting to note is that Milojevic’s last two titles have both come on clay, and his propensity for playing most of his matches on clay this season shows where his preference lies, 11 of his 12 Futures circuit tournament wins came on hard court surfaces.

It’s only more recently has Milojevic shifted across to clay and it’s only last season he found some success too.

This included his first win in main draws of a Grand Slam, with the Serb getting through to the second round of the 2020 French Open having made it to the main draw as a qualifier. Can he now test a clay court specialist whose form has suffered a little in recent times?

Coria v Milojevic Prediction and Tip

Interesting to note that it’s Milojevic who starts off as a favourite at 4/6 to Coria’s 1/1 for a win here. Tipping a hard-fought match which goes to a third set.

Tip: Three sets in the match: 6/4 (bet365)
