Zheng Saisai v Kristina Mladenovic Head to Head
Their only previous encounter came in the 2019 Miami Open and Mladenovic came through in straight sets in that opening round encounter.

After having missed the entirety of the post-pandemic season, Saisai began this new season on a horrible note. Her first six matches spread across six tournaments led to six losses, three of which came in straight sets.
It’s since her defeat at the WTA Dubai that things have changed for her. A little.
At the Monterrey Open, Saisai won a couple of rounds to make it to the quarterfinal, where she fell to Ann Li. At the Miami Open, a first round win over Fiona Ferro was followed by a second round defeat to Karolina Pliskova and she then played in her first match on clay in Bogota where Saisai overcame Usue Arconada.
Saisai was expected to go through her second round match as well, but fell to Stefanie Voegele despite being a 1/3 favourite to win it.
In short, the Chinese player has turned things around but the consistency she needs to get back to her former solid self, which had seen her win a WTA title and four WTA $125k victories.

Mladenovic Struggles to Get Going
A four-match losing streak is what Mladenovic is on, coming into this tournament. This includes a first round loss at the hands of Shelby Rogers, at the Charleston Open, where she featured in her first clay court competition of the season.
To go with that, Mladenovic has also lost in the first round in six of the competitions she has participated this season and the 2019 quarterfinalist at this event now has a lot to overcome to stall her losing streak.
Making things more difficult is Mladenovic’s record on clay which has seen her lose four matches in a row now, dating back to May 2019.
Her last win on dirt had come way back in the first round of the 2019 French Open and now, up against a player who has herself seen some dodgy form, Mladenovic would hope to stall her poor streak.
Saisai v Mladenovic Prediction and Tip
Mladenovic (8/13) starts off a favourite here but we think there’s not much to choose between these two and we could see bit of a tussle in this one.
