Ashleigh Barty v Laura Siegemund Head to Head

Barty and Siegemund have faced each other only once in the past and it was the Australian, who claimed a comfortable 6-3, 6-2 win over the German in Qatar last year.

Barty Looks to Avert Another Early Loss

Top seed Ashleigh Barty relishes her chances on the European clay courts, a surface the Australian loves the most. After all, she won her maiden Grand Slam title at the French Open in 2019. In fact, her victory in Paris, two years ago, was the biggest factor behind her rise as the best player in the world.

However, despite her mastery over the red dirt, Barty faced the ignominy of an early loss on the surface, in Charleston this month. The surprising thing in that defeat was that she didn’t lose to an accomplished player, but lost to the 62nd-ranked Paula Badosa of Spain, and that too in straight sets.

Even though, Barty has struggled to find her best form so far in 2021, she is still the top draw as far as winning the French Open in June is concerned. With her aggressive mindset and a versatile game, which has no major weaknesses, Barty is always a frontrunner nowadays, especially at the Grand Slams.

Still, she would want to get some wins under her belt as even a player like her needs some confidence to win a tournament and that’s why, her form in Stuttgart would be keenly watched, not just by her rivals, but also by the pundits.

Siegemund Yet to Play a Match on Clay in 2021

Barty’s challenger in her Stuttgart opener will be the German Laura Siegemund, who is ranked 58th in the world. Surprisingly, Siegemund has played a lot of matches on the hard courts, but hadn’t played a competitive match on clay this season before this tournament.

The German has a 7-6 win/loss record in 2021 and hasn’t done any wonders in any of the tournaments, she has participated in so far. Except in Doha, where she came through qualifying to reach the second round, Siegemund, has nothing impressive to show on her CV this year.

Siegemund has no major weapons in her arsenal and can’t win easy points on her serve, all of which, she would surely need, if she is to beat Barty in Germany.

Barty v Siegemund Prediction and Tip

Top-seeded Barty is not expected to waste too much time on the court as she should win this contest in straight sets. The only way Siegemund could stop her from achieving a quick-fire win is to win all her service games in the match.

Tip: Barty to win in straight sets: 5/6 (bet365)
