Federico Coria v Cedrik-Marcel Stebe Head to Head

Their only previous meeting came on the hard court of the 2020 Noumea Challenger and Stebe had won that match in straight sets to move into the quarterfinals.

Coria on a Losing Streak

Since making it to the semifinal at the Cordoba Open earlier this season, Coria’s form has crash-landed. In the eight matches he has played since, Coria has lost seven and won just a solitary encounter which came in Santiago.

And that victory in Santiago has been followed by a five-match losing streak, including four on clay.

Clay has been Coria’s favourite surface too, having rarely played on hard courts and winning all 10 of his Futures and Challenger titles on dirt.

Which is why defeats to the likes of John Millman (at Cagliari Open), Thomas Fabbiano (Monte Carlo) and Nikola Milojevic (Belgrade) would specially hurt given the Argentine should have had not a lot of problem getting past them on this surface.

Without a lot of confidence, Coria will have it difficult in this encounter despite playing a 133rd-ranked opponent.

Stebe Qualifies in Straight Sets

After failing to make it to the main draw at the Cagliari Open, Stebe needed to win both his qualifiers here in Munich to enter round one of the contest. And the German did that by defeat Yuichi Sugita and Dennis Novak in straight sets.

He will be starting off as a favourite here despite his own form issues too.

Stebe’s only main draw victory this year had come at the Great Ocean Road Open in the lead-up to the Australian Open, where he overcame Hugo Dellien. That aside, his inability to make it to main draws and a first round defeat at the Australian Open – having qualified as a lucky loser – have punctuated a difficult season for the German.

Given that being the case, it does not look like there’s much to choose between him and his opponent.

Coria v Stebe Prediction and Tip

Stebe is a favourite here, 4/5 to win this, but Coria holds bit of an edge for us despite his poor form. Backing the Argentine to win this and break a five-match losing streak.

Tip: Coria to win: 1/1 (bet365)
