Alex de Minaur v Stefano Travaglia Head to Head
De Minaur won their only meeting in the Round of 64 of the Paris Masters last year, winning the contest 6-4, 6-4.

World No. 22 Alex de Minaur will make his fifth main draw appearance at Roland Garros, however, the Aussie has gone past the first round only once in his previous four appearances.
Beaten in the first rounds by Robin Haas and Kyle Edmund in 2017 and 2018 respectively, de Minaur picked his first win at the French Open in 2019, defeating Bradley Klahn in the first round before losing to Pablo Carreno Busta in the Round of 64. Last year, the 22-year-old was handed another first-round defeat, this time by Italy’s Marco Cecchinato.
De Minaur, who had back-to-back runner-up finishes at the ATP NexGen finals in 2018 and 2019, began the 2021 season by claiming his fourth ATP title, as Alexander Bublik retired after just two games in the Antalya Open final. The Australian right-hander, who is at his best on hard courts, had won his first three ATP finals in 2019. He also has four runner-up finishes at the top level.
This year, De Minaur is 11-10 overall and 3-4 on clay, which includes a first Round-of-16 appearance at the Madrid Masters, where he defeated Jaume Munar and Lloyd Harris on way to the Round of 16, but went down to Dominic Thiem in straight sets.
When it comes to Grand Slams, the Australian delivered his best result at the U.S. Open last year, reaching his first major quarterfinal, but it was Thiem who ended his run at Flushing Meadows as well.
Overall, de Minaur, who has an 86-47 record on hard courts, is 5-15 on clay and will be looking to improve that record a bit before saying goodbye to Paris.

Travaglia Fizzles Out After a Solid Start
De Minaur’s first round opponent will be Italy’s Stefano Travaglia, who has fizzled out after a great start to 2021.
Having begun the season with a quarterfinal finish at the Antalya Open, the 29-year-old Italian reached his first career final at the Great Ocean Road Open, but failed to clinch the title, going down to fellow Italian Jannik Sinner in the final.
Travaglia’s run at the Melbourne event had included wins against higher-ranked players in Sam Querrey, Alexander Bublik and Hubert Hurkacz and a semifinal win over Thiago Monteiro.
But the 7-2 start to the season was followed by seven-successive first round defeats, before he finally arrested the eight-match skid against Benoit Paire in Rome.
The win, however, didn’t turnaround his fortunes, as Travaglo lost to Denis Shapovalov in the second round in Rome and then fell to Marco Cecchinato and Tommy Paul in the first rounds in Geneva and Parma respectively. So he comes to Roland Garros with a 1-11 record from his last 12 matches.
The Italian right-hander, who has a career-high ranking of 60, hasn’t had much success in the majors either. But his best showing at a Grand Slam came at the French Open last year, when he defeated Pablo Andujar and Kei Nishikori to reach the third round before being hammered by Rafael Nadal.
This will be Travaglia’s third French Open. He lost in the first round on his debut in 2019.

Although De Minaur doesn’t have a great record on clay, he will still hold the edge against his opponent, who has been in miserable form of late. Expect the Aussie to advance to the next round.
