Ons Jabeur v Yulia Putintseva Head to Head

Jabeur holds a 1-0 lead over Putintseva, with her sole win coming in the 2019 WTA Tianjin quarterfinal. The Tunisian won that match in straight sets with 7-6(4), 7-6(4).

Jabeur Loving the Clay Season

The 26-year-old Jabeur has had a brilliant season so far. Currently ranked World No. 26, she is enjoying her best start to a season yet, in addition to reaching new career-high rankings.

She has been sensational particularly on the clay courts, starting with a semifinal run in WTA 500 Charleston where she succumbed to Danka Kovinic. The number 25 seed immediately followed that with a runner-up feat in the Musc Health Women’s Open where she ultimately lost to Astra Sharma.

Nonetheless, that was her first significant trophy of any kind since October 2018.

Jabeur last competed with the big guns in the Mutua Madrid Open where she fell to Belinda Bencic in the third round.

It is not surprising to see the Tunisian ace play so well on clay. It has been one of her preferred surfaces as most of her success on the tour came on clay courts.

As a two-time French Open Junior finalist – settling for the runner-up trophy in 2010 and winning the title in 2011 – the Paris Slam certainly holds a special place for her.

Putintseva, All Out of Sorts

Yulia Putintseva started the season on a mediocre note but things haven’t changed as the season progressed. Despite starting the clay season on a decent note – a quarterfinal feat in WTA Charleston, she has since then failed to move past the second round in all subsequent tournaments.

In the Madrid Open and Italian Open, the Kazakh lost in the openers to Johanna Konta and Cori Gauff respectively. She then featured in the Serbia Ladies Open where she was beaten by #188 ranked Ana Konjuh in the second round.

Her last event was the Strasbourg Open where Magda Linette stopped her in the quarterfinal.

That said, the current World No. 43 is a two-time French Open quarterfinalist although, she hasn’t reached that stage in the last couple of seasons.

Jabeur v Putintseva Prediction and Tip

Jabeur is bound to start this game as the heavy favourite, not only because of her pedigree on the clay surface but also owing to her recent form and head-to-head superiority over Putintseva. However, it may not be an easy win with the Kazakh expected to put up a fight.
