Veronika Kudermetova v Amanda Anisimova Head to Head

Kudermetova and Anisimova have never played each other in a competitive match before this.

Kudermetova 13-3 on Clay This Season

It’s slowly becoming a season in which Kudermetova realises her potential or at least gets to a level from where she can launch into further greatness. Because having been outside the top 100 around two years ago, Kudermetova hasn’t allowed the pandemic-break to come in the way of her march towards top 30 on the charts.

This year, more than any other, she has also shown signs of brilliance.

Starting off with a final appearance at the Abu Dhabi Open where she defeated Anett Kontaveit and Elina Svitolina, Kudermetova faced a bit of a lull in her performances after that on hard court surfaces.

However, the Russian came back strongly on clay, winning 13 of her 16 matches including a title victory in Charleston where she didn’t drop a set. A semifinal in Istanbul and wins over Kiki Bertens and Elise Mertens in Madrid and Rome mean she starts off this match with lot of confidence and bit of an edge.

Anisimova Hoping to Come into Her Own

Injuries and off-court personal issues had combined to apply brakes on Anisimova’s performances and it’s taking her some time to get back to her own self.

Once ranked 21st in the world after having reached the 2019 French Open semifinal, Anisimova has fallen to outside the top 40 and had it not been for the change in the WTA ranking system, it might have been a lot worse too.

That said, in more recent times, Anisimova is showing signs of getting some sort of results back, carving out a quarterfinal appearance as recently as a week ago in Parma.

That was Anisimova’s first instance of winning back to back matches this season, following on from a third round appearance at the French Open last year when she last won successively.

Now unseeded, Anisimova has been drawn to face a low seed but one who is in the form of her life and it would be interesting to see if she can take some of her own recent form to fight for a win.

Kudermetova v Anisimova Prediction and Tip

Not much to choose in what could be the battle of the first round in the women’s section of the draw. Both start out at 10/11 but we believe Kudermetova could see this through in a hard-fought encounter.
