Venus Continues to Struggle with Form

Venus Williams, a former World No. 1 player, is set to compete in the French Open on the back of one of the worst spells on the tour in her career.

The 40-year-old has competed in three clay tournaments so far in 2021 but is yet to win a match on the surface. In fact, her overall win-loss tally for the year to date stands at 2-5, with the wins coming in the opening round of the Yarra Valley Classic and the Australian Open.

Since then, the 2002 French Open runner-up has competed in the Miami Open, Madrid Open, WTA Parma, and the Strasbourg Open last week. All through the way, she lost her opening round matches to the likes of Zarina Diyas, Jennifer Brady, and Sorana Cirstea.

Venus hasn’t made it past the second round on the tour since the 2019 Cincinnati Open; back then, she made it as far as the quarterfinal before losing to Madison Keys. Her record in Paris is much worse, seeing that she been losing her first-round games at the Roland Garros since 2018.

Alexandrova Looking Considerably Better

Even though the 26-year-old Ekaterina Alexandrova may not have the experience when compared to the American, she is certainly ahead when it comes to momentum and form.

She has had a much better time on clay with back-to-back third-round appearances in the Strasbourg Open and Italian Open. Currently ranked World No. 33, the Russian had a good run in the WTA Stuttgart too where she made it to the quarterfinal after beating Belinda Bencic.

Ekaterina’s season is marked with such instances where she has reached the penultimate rounds, only to lose. Her best run of the season came in the Gippsland Trophy where she reached the semifinal after beating Iga Swiatek and Simona Halep.

Alexandrova v Venus Prediction and Tip

Purely going by form, Alexandrova has the upper hand. She has got a few wins under her belt on the clay surface and is certainly in better spirits than her American adversary.

Expect the Russian to win this match although, it may be a dragged-out affair.
