Matteo Berrettini v Kwon Soon-woo Head to Head

This is set to be the first career meeting between Berrettini and Soon-woo.

Imperious Berrettini Takes Down Coria

Matteo Berrettini powered into another third round at Roland Garros after dismissing the challenge of Argentina’s Federico Coria, winning 6-3 6-3 6-2, just two minutes shy of two hours.

It was his 20th match win of this fantastic season which has yielded a title in Belgrade and a runner-up finish in Madrid thus far.

Berrettini turned to the basics in this match and admitted afterward that the serve and his aggressive style were the keys to unlocking Coria.

Coria has played some fine tennis on the clay this year, with his most recent quarterfinal showing in Belgrade a real confidence-booster for Paris. But in Berrettini, he was playing an opponent at the peak of his game. The Italian’s brute firepower was on full display.

Berrettini struck 46 winners – almost four times more than his opponent – and won 82% of his first-serve points (42/51). He was also productive at the net, winning 81% of points (25/31).

Soon-woo Makes Surprise Third Round Appearance

Tennis history is what the Grand Slams are all about. And in Kwon Soon-woo, national honor is also at stake. With compatriot Hyeon Chung fading into obscurity, the spotlight has never shone any brighter to Soon-woo than at this year’s French Open.

The talented 23-year-old reached the third round of Roland Garros for the first time, after upending Kevin Anderson and Andreas Seppi. He is the first South Korean to reach this stage in a Grand Slam since Chung in the 2019 US Open.

Soon-woo also improved on his Grand Slam main draw record. He has now doubled his winning tally after picking up two victories. Prior to this week, his lone win came at the 2020 US Open.

His victory over Anderson was an eyebrow-raiser, but it will be his straight-sets win over Seppi which gets all the plaudits, and rightly so.

Soon-woo beat aching limbs, after having both of his legs taped. It was a battle of will, and the player with the most unforced errors would easily pack his bags. The Italian veteran committed more errors (45 to 29). And that was despite hitting 17 aces to Soon-woo’s six.

Berrettini v Soon-woo Prediction and Tip

This match rests firmly on Berrettini’s racket. Soon-woo has the know-how of upsetting the big names as evident in his Roland Garros first-round win, but it is highly unlikely he will get anything other than a moment of personal satisfaction of reaching this stage.

Tip: Berrettini to win in straight sets: 1/2 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
