Competing in the Wimbledon tune-up event, Sara Sorribes Tormo will be hoping to find her winning ways quite quickly here in Bad Homburg. She is playing in her first event since the French Open, where the Spaniard fell to Saisai Zheng in the opener.
The 24-year-old enjoyed a promising start to the season before losing her traction in the clay swing. In the WTA Abu Dhabi, Tormo reached the quarterfinal in Guadalajara, she moved on to conquer her first singles trophy, beating Eugenie Bouchard in the final.
Following that title-winning run, Sorribes Tormo then reached the semifinal in Monterrey and the quarterfinal in the Miami Open, where she beat Jennifer Brady, Elena Rybakina, and Ons Jabeur en route.
On clay, however, the best she could pull was a second-round appearance in the Italian Open.
Through the years, the Spaniard has shown a strong proclivity to perform on grass. Case in point, in 2018, she reached the final of an ITF event in Manchester and followed it with a second-round appearance at Wimbledon which she achieved as a qualifier.

Trevisan Seeking Reprieve in Bad Homburg
Currently ranked World No. 98, Martina Trevisan’s win-loss tally stands at 5-14 at the moment. The 27-year-old Italian hasn’t been particularly exceptional in 2021.
Between WTA Abu Dhabi and the Qatar Open, she featured in four events where she lost her opening-round matches in straight sets (except for the Gippsland Trophy where she fell in three sets in the opener to Andrea Petkovic). It was the same story in Monterrey, Charleston, Miami, and Madrid as well, where she incurred a series of opening-round defeats – either in the main draw or qualifying.
Things didn’t change much until the French Open where Trevisan salved as a second-round appearance and later, reached the quarterfinal in the WTA 125K event in Bol, Croatia.
With these small wins being the highlight of the season, it is quite difficult for us to imagine her beat the seventh-seeded Spaniard, who has had a much better run, comparatively.

Sorribes Tormo has had a much better run in 2021 and as such, will start this game as the odds-on favourite. Expect her to beat Trevisan comfortably and reach the next round.
