Jessica Pegula v Caroline Garcia Head to Head

No previous matches have been played at the highest level between these two players. They did meet once on the ITF circuit though with Pegula having won that on clay way back in 2012.

Pegula 3-2 on Grass This Season

While Pegula has grown in stature as a player over the last couple of seasons, she would know she has some work to be done before the same results can be replicated on grass as well.

This season Pegula has featured in a couple of grass court competitions, in Berlin and Bad Homburg and come back with mixed results. At the former, specially, Pegula would be chuffed about her second round win over Karolina Pliskova and the fight she put up against Victoria Azarenka in the quarterfinal.

Unfortunately for her, Pegula fell in the second round at Bad Homburg, losing to Katerina Siniakova in three sets which brings her back to the square one.

Having first visited Wimbledon in 2013, Pegula’s best performance at this Grand Slam came in 2019 when she got knocked out in the first round. She will be gunning for an improvement and a half here.

Garcia Struggling to Get Going in 2021

The odd couple of wins in a row aside, Garcia’s struggles have continued into the new season, having made no major inroads in 2020 either.

The 77th-ranked Frenchwoman made the second round at French Open but since switching over to grass, she has not had the best beginning. Garcia was made to stretch in her opener at Birmingham Open by Harriet Dart before Marie Bouzkova, who was 1/1 going into their second round match crushed her 6-3, 6-0.

Such has been the fall in the rankings that Garcia had had to go through the qualifiers to try to make it to the main draw at Eastbourne, which she didn’t. She went out at the hands of Shelby Rogers in straight sets.

This is for a player who had made the round of 16 at the 2017 Wimbledon but in more recent times has seen her ranking fall by the wayside.

A former world number four, Garcia now has her work cut out coming into this opener.

Pegula v Garcia Prediction and Tip

Pegula’s form on grass might not be in line with her performances otherwise this season but she has done enough – and her opponent has struggled enough –  for us to go with a Pegula win. Could be a straight-set loss too for the Frenchwoman.

Tip: Pegula to win in straight sets: 1/1 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
