Vekic Slowly Getting Some Rhythm Back

At the peak of her career so far, Vekic was ranked 19th in the world and gunning for more success. A string of defeats because of loss of form and fitness issues, followed by a surgery have pushed her down the charts and she enters Wimbledon as an unseeded player.

Her return to tennis after a brief layout came at French Open and even in that defeat at the hands of Karolina Pliskova in the opener there, Vekic’s performance wasn’t anything to be ashamed about.

She made the second round in her first tournament on grass after that and then at Birmingham, Vekic defeated Francesca Jones and Camila Giorgi to make it to the quarterfinals.

Vekic, whose best performance at Wimbledon came in 2018 when she made the fourth round, will now look to get back to her winning ways in Grand Slam tennis on a surface that should suit her style of play.

Potapova Strong in Birmingham

It was the kind of result Potapova would have been desperate for. The Russian, who had a wretched clay court swing where she won just three of her eight matches played, came back strongly in Birmingham to register back to back victories.

This followed a decent start to the season on hard court surfaces, where she had made the third round at Australian Open and quarterfinal in Dubai. And with wins over Alison Riske, Madison Keys and Belinda Bencic in those tournaments, Potapova showed she belonged to the top 50, and not where is right now – 80th in the world.

At Birmingham, Potapova started out with a gruelling three-set win over Nina Stojanovic before sending Kristina Mladenovic away in straight sets in the second. And while she fell to Ons Jabeur in the quarterfinal, Potapova will feel a lot better coming into Wimbledon now than she did about two weeks ago.

Potapova has won just one previous match at Wimbledon though and that lack of experience might go against her.

Vekic v Potapova Prediction and Tip

Vekic’s recent showings exhibit a certain confidence that seemed to have gone missing from her game earlier in the season. Backing her to clinch this. Might also be in straight sets.
