Bedene 0-2 on Grass This Season

Slovenia’s Aljaz Bedene will be making his eighth main draw appearance at Wimbledon this year. However he is not coming in in the best of forms having lost both his grass matches this year.

Bedene lost in the first round at Queen’s and Eastbourne to Frances Tiafoe and Marton Fucsovics respectively.

Overall the Slovenian right-hander has an 11-19 career record on grass and his best at Wimbledon was a third-round finish in 2017, when he defeated Ivo Karlovic and Damir Dzumhur in the first two rounds before going down to Gilles Muller.

In 2019, Bedene made a fourth first-round exit at Wimbledon, going down to Matteo Berrettini despite taking the first set.

He comes in with a 13-12 record this season, having reached the quarterfinals in Cagliari and Lyon, going down to Taylor Fritz and Lorenzo Musetti respectively.

Yet to win a title in his career, the 31-year-old is a four-time finalist, losing to Stan Wawrinka in Chennai in 2015, Lucas Pouille in Hungary in 2017, Dominic Thiem in Argentina in 2018 and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga in Moselle in 2019.

Moutet Looks to Start With a Win

Facing Bedene will be France’s Corentin Moutet, who is 11-8 overall and 2-2 on grass this year.

The 22-year-old French left-hander began the season in style reaching the semifinals at Melbourne-2. Moutet defeated Frances Tiafoe, Albert Ramos-Vinolas, James Duckworth and Grigor Dimitrov before falling to Felix Auger-Aliassime.

Moutet won his first match at the Australian Open this year, winning a five-set thriller against John Millman before going down to Milos Raonic in four.

The Frenchman also reached the quarterfinals in Estoril, defeating Denis Shapovalov in the Round of 16, but lost his last eight match to Ramos Vinolas.

Moutet will be featuring at the Championships for the second time this year. In 2019, playing as a qualifier, he stunned Grigor Dimitrov in the first round, fighting back from two sets down to win in five. He also took a set off Felix Auger-Aliassime in the next round, but couldn’t find a way past the Canadian.

The World No. 85 is yet to win a title, but he was a finalist in Doha last year, finishing runner-up to Andrey Rublev.

Bedene v Moutet Prediction and Tip

Although Bedene is the higher-ranked player, Moutet will give him a tough fight. The feisty Frenchman has looked good this season and it won’t be a surprise if he keeps his perfect first-round record at Wimbledon intact with a win on Tuesday.
