Marta Kostyuk v Anastasia Sevastova Head to Head

The pair have played each other three times before, and Sevastova leads their head to head series by two matches to pone.

Kostyuk won their match in the second round of the US Open last year, but it was Sevastova who emerged victorious form their meeting in the qualifying competition for the Madrid masters in  April.

And, last week at Eastbourne, Sevastova won their first round match, although it was keenly contested, and went to three sets.

Teenager Kostyuk Upsets Bertens

The Ukrainian teenager Kostyuk made be playing in her first Wimbledon, but she is not lacking in confidence after reaching the fourth round at the French Open before losing to Iga Świątek.

And that was evident by the way she dealt with the challenge of Kiki Bertens of the Netherlands in their first round match on Tuesday, the world number 21, who is seeded 17for this year’s Championship.

Kostyuk began well, breaking Bertens in her opening service game, and, thereafter, she had a number of break point opportunities to extend her lead. She could not take any of them but, with Bertens offering little threat of her own, the Ukrainian still took the set.

Although both women had chances to break in the second set, it stayed on serve until the ninth game, when it was Bertens who faltered once more, Kostyuk served out next game to book her second round appearance.

Sevastova Eases Past Diyas

The Latvian number two has an excellent record at the US Open, where she has been a semi-finalist and twice made the quarter-finals as well.

Success at Wimbledon, though, has been harder to come by, and this is just the third time she has made it through to the second round (and she has never been further).

However, she had a fellow comfortable first round victory against Zarina Diyas of Kazakhstan, the world 101, in the opening round match on Wednesday.

Initially the first set was fairly even, and it was the Latvian who first dropped her serve, only to hit back straight away with a  break of her own.

Sevastova then save four break points and then secured a further break of her own serving out for the set to love.

The opening two games of the second set were shared, but the Latvian then took control of the match. She broke Diyas again after a game in which she had already squandered four break points and the woman from Kazakhstan did not win another game after that.

The match was over in an hour and ten minutes.

Kostyuk v Sevastova Prediction and Tip

Kostyuk will be full of confidence after her victory over Bertens, but Sevastova can fall back on the fact that she beat the teenager on grass just a week ago.

That makes the Latvian the slight favourite, but the match could go either way.
