Viktorija Golubic v Madison Brengle Head to Head

The pair have played each other twice before, and each has won one match. Brengle won on the clay of Treviso in 2014, but eleven days ago, Golubic triumphed on grass at Eastbourne in three sets, clinching the third set to love.

Wimbledon Golubic’s Favourite Grand Slam event

Golubic is into the third round at Wimbledon for the second successive time – she has never made it beyond the first round at any of the other Grand Slam events.

But she was made to work very hard in the first round to overcome the world number 32, and number 29 seed, Veronika Kudermetova of Russia.

It was the Russian that began the better of the two, taking the opening set, before Golubic hit back to claim the second for the loss of just one game.

The third set developed into a real struggle, as the momentum flowed from one end to the other. Golubic had two match points, but Kudermetova saved them both, and the match continued.

The Russian also earned a break point of her own, but could not take it, and finally, in the 19th game, Golubic achieved what proved to be the decisive break. She clinched victory with her fourth match point next game.

Her second round victory over the American world ranked 48, Danielle Collins, proved to be much more straightforward.

After the opening two games were shared, Collins dropped two consecutive service games. She recovered one of them, only to hand the break straight back.

That was the end of the American’s hopes to all intent and purposes. She lost the next seven games, dropping the second set to love.

The pair were on court just over an hour.

Brengle Ends Kenin’s Hopes

Brengle has now made the third round of Wimbledon for the second time in her career, having previously reached this stage back in 2017.

So far, she has appeared in two all-American clashes, with her first-round opponent being Christine McHale, the world number 97. It developed into an epic battle.

McHale won the first set on her fourth set point, but, Brengle, despite going an early break down, recovered to claim the second.

Then in the third set, McHale had five match points but could not convert any of them.

Finally in the 18th game, with McHale serving to stay in the match, Brengle forced two match points of her own, and was able to convert the second.

That meant a second round tie against the world number six Sofia Kenin, and she shocked the number four seed, handing her a straight sets defeat.

Kenin started terribly dropping her opening four service games and, although Brengle dropped two service games of her own, she still had a comfortable cushion to take the first set.

The second set was initially more even, but then Kenin dropped her serve again. She immediately got the break back, only to drop her serve once more. Brengle needed no second invitation and served out.

Golubic v Brengle Prediction and Tip

The fourth round of a Grand Slam would be unchartered territory for both players, but Golubic will start the favourite, because her win over Brengle at Eastbourne provides a recent form guide.
