Karolina Pliskova v Ludmilla Samsonova Head to Head

No previous matches have been played between Pliskova and Samsonova before this.

Wildcard Samsonova Makes it 10 Wins in a Row

Two qualifying victories at the German Open were followed by a title win that needed her to win five matches and Samsonova has continued that run with three more wins at Wimbledon.

And with these 10 victories under her belt, the Russian will go into her fourth round match at Wimbledon with the kind of confidence not too many others in the women’s tennis world would have at the moment.

That’s not just because of the number of wins but also given the kind of opposition she has got the better of – Vondrousova, Kudermetova, Keys, Azarenka and Bencic had also endured defeats at the hands of Samsonova at Berlin and here, she has already sent out Kaia Kanepi, Jessica Pegula and now in the third round, Sloane Stephens.

Samsonova did need three sets and over two hours to achieve the win, was broken five times as well but she retaliated with six breaks of her own to claim the fourth round berth. Interestingly, before this, Samsonova had registered a sum total of one main draw victory in main draws of Grand Slam tournaments.

Pliskova Forgetting 2021 Woes

While Pliskova had a WTA tournament final under her belt for the season, things hadn’t otherwise looked very good for her. That’s till she came into this tournament and began showing signs of her old sparkle.

The former world number one, who had earlier demolished Tamara Zidansek and Donna Vekic in the first two rounds of this edition of Wimbledon, reached the fourth round with another straight-set win. This time around, Pliskova crushed Tereza Martincova 6-3, 6-3 in an hour and 39 minutes to seal her last 16 berth.

Pliskova was tested early in the match, facing three break-points in her very first service game and then went on to break her opponent three times in the first set. While she herself lost her serve in the eighth game, the damage had been done by then.

The second set was a lot easier for the world number 13 once she had saved four break-points in the fifth game. She broke in the sixth game and held on easily to complete the victory.

Interestingly for a player who relies so heavily on the power of her serve, Pliskova has never gone beyond the fourth round at Wimbledon. Can this be her first?

Pliskova v Samsonova Prediction and Tip

Bookmakers aren’t sure about this one. Both Pliskova and Samsonova start out at 10/11 to win this and while Pliskova has the experience, Samsonova has shown time and again she can pull down some of the best in the world in recent times. Going with a Samsonova win.
