Karolina Muchova v Angelique Kerber  Head to Head

Kerber holds a 2-0 lead over Muchova, last beating her in the 2019 Monterrey Open in straight sets.

Kerber Overcomes Gauff with Ease

Having struggled with her form of late, Angelique Kerber is finally starting to play the kind of tennis that took her to the No. 1 spot in the rankings a few seasons ago.

Following a title run in the Bad Homburg Open last week – her first WTA singles trophy since the Wimbledon 2018 – the German has done well to carry her fine form over the week here in London. Her most recent victim is the American teenager Cori Gauff, whom Kerber dispatched in the fourth round with 6-4, 6-4.

Up until the grass swing, the best Kerber had managed on the tour this year was reaching the third round in the Italian Open and Grampians Trophy. Such has been the case for her much of the last season too.

Even here at SW19, she faced a few hiccups in the early rounds against Sara Sorribes Tormo and Aliaksandra Sasnovich. The number 25 seed dropped a set against both players before eventually taking the match.

That said, the 33-year old has the experience and a rich grass pedigree on her side. Plus, the last time she reached the quarterfinal in Wimbledon, she moved on to win the title.

Muchova Looking Confident

24-year-old Karolina Muchova is just one win away from reaching her second Grand Slam semifinal of the season. Earlier in the year, she reached the same stage in the Australian Open (beating Ashleigh Barty and Karolina Pliskova on the way) to deliver her best major performance yet.

Since then, the 24-year-old has reached the quarterfinal in Madrid Open and the third round in French Open. In all fairness, Muchova hasn’t featured in that many WTA events this season but when she has, she has left quite a mark. Case in point, she beat Naomi Osaka and Maria Sakkari in Madrid.

So far in London, Muchova has beaten the likes of Shuai Zhang, Camila Giorgi, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, and most recently, Paula Badosa. Not many would have expected a run like this from her, seeing that in the Bett1Open in June, she fell to Veronika Kudermetova in the opener in three sets.

However, Muchova has some history on her side as she was also a quarterfinalist in the last Wimbledon too.

Kerber v Muchova Prediction and Tip

Keber will start this match as the favourite but it may not be a clinical win. Expect three sets in the match.
