Ash Barty v Ajla Tomljanovic Head to Head

No previous matches have been played between Barty and Tomljanovic before this.

Barty Blows Krejcikova Away

This was expected to be the final before the final between the top two ladies in the world as far as the points for the season are concerned. And for a few games in the opening set, it looked like that too but Barty then took the encounter by its horns and stormed away to a straoght-set win.

The world number one trailed in the first set after dropping her serve early but came back to win in straight sets 7-5, 6-3 in an hour and 37 minutes to reach the last eight.

Barty was a break down, falling 1-3 down in the opening set but Krejcikova’s inability to shut things out proved to be undoing. The Czech failed to take advantage on Barty’s serve at 2-4, before the Aussie retaliated by holding serve and then breaking her serve.

Krejcikova managed to save one set-point on her own serve before Barty broke her at the most opportune of timings, the 12th game, to pouch the opening set.

The second set saw the French Open winner fritter away a 15-40 advantage on Barty’s serve only to drop her own in the sixth game. Barty was broken back but came back with another break of serve following which the world number one served it out for the match.

Barty will consider herself a favourite going up against the fellow Aussie in this one.

Tomljanovic Benefits from Raducanu Retirement

When her opponent in her previous round sat down and took a medical timeout late in the final set, Tomljanovic was cheesed off as she alleged there was nothing wrong with Jelena Ostapenko and it had all been a part of her opponent’s gamesmanship to slow it down and break the Aussie’s rhythm.

This time around, with Emma Raducanu down a set and a break in the second, it was the Brit’s chance to take a medical timeout. And soon after, Raducanu failed to recover quickly enough and retired from the match.

While the manner in which it ended wouldn’t have pleased Tomljanovic too much, she would take her maiden Grand Slam quarterfinal appearance with both hands.

Tomljanovic was up 6-4, 3-0 in an hour and nine minutes when the forfeiture came.

Having beaten Greet Minnen, Alize Cornet and Ostapenko before this, the real challenge for Tomljanovic comes now, against the world number one and she would hope to do better than what she did the last couple of times she faced a top 10 player (lost in straight sets to Kiki Bertens and Ayna Sabalenka).

Barty v Tomljanovic Prediction and Tip

Unfortunately for Tomljanovic despite wanting to come away with an aggressive showing like she has all tournament, Barty will prove to be a bridge too far. Expect her to win in straight sets.
