Marie Bouzkova v Storm Sanders Head to Head

The two ladies have never met before on the WTA Tour.

Bouzkova 1-4 on Clay this Season

22-year-old Marie Bouzkova had a pretty uneventful clay swing in 2021, picking up just one win in the four tournaments she participated in. That victory came in the Charleston Open where she made it to the second round before losing to Ajla Tomljanovic.

The Czech followed that run with a litany of first-round exits in Stuttgart, Madrid, and Paris, before finding some reprieve in the grass season.

Even then, it wasn’t that great – her best performance was a quarterfinal showing in the Birmingham Classic. As for her run in Wimbledon, she fell in the first round to Vera Zvonareva.

That said, Bouzkova enjoyed a great run in the first half of the season. She reached the final of the Phillip Island Trophy (losing to Daria Kasatkina in the final) and later reached the semifinal in WTA Guadalajara.

Currently ranked World No. 52, Bouzkova has also seen some success on the doubles circuit this year. Partnered with Lucie Hradecka, she was the runner-up in Charleston Open doubles, a quarterfinalist in Wimbledon, and the champion in Birmingham Classic.

Sanders Capable of Delivering the Upset

Statistically speaking, Storm Sanders has picked up more wins on clay in 2021 than her Czech opponent. However, a good majority of those wins have come in the qualifying rounds.

The current World No. 147 reached the second round in WTA 500 Charleston as a qualifier, ultimately losing to Petra Kvitova. A week later, Sanders had a similar run at the same venue (International tier) but this time, she lost right in the first round after winning both of her qualifying matches.

It was a similar story in the French Open too where she won her three qualifying games before losing in the opening main draw fixture to Elise Mertens.

26-year-old Sanders didn’t have that great of a time on grass although, in the doubles, she made it as far as the semis in Wimbledon with Caroline Dolehide. The duo were also the runner-ups in Nottingham Open doubles a few weeks ago.

And just like Bouzkova, she was a finalist in Charleston doubles (WTA 250) as well – this time with Ellen Perez.

Bouzkova v Sanders Prediction and Tip

Bouzkova’s pedigree on the singles circuit is certainly better than Sanders’ that should give her the edge here to win this match.
