A former champion at Wimbledon, Kvitova would hoped to do a lot better than what she finally did this season. The Czech crashed out in the first round, losing to Sloane Stephens in her opener in straight sets leaving fans wondering if it’s Kvitova’s form or fitness levels that have taken a hit.
Because not too long ago at French Open, Kvitova had withdrawn from the tournament in the second round because of an injury too.
Earlier on the hard court surface of WTA Dubai, Kvitova had gone on to lift the title, but her returns haven’t been extraordinary since then. The world number 10 did well to reach the quarterfinal in Madrid and the semifinal at Bad Homburg but those results aside she hasn’t achieved much this season.
What she would like is to kick-start this tournament at home on a high and gain further momentum as she comes through WTA Prague.

Sramkova Makes Maiden Prague Main Draw
After having tried on three previous occasions to make it to the main draw at Prague Open, it was off the fourth that Stramcova was finally successful. The 232nd-ranked Stramcova won both her qualifying round matches in straight sets to reach the main draw where she will now take on Kvitova in her opener.
What makes this a doubly difficult encounter for Sramkova – apart from the pedigree of her opponent obviously – is she has rarely won a main draw match on the WTA circuit. Most of her wins, and there sure have been a few, have come on the ITF circuit level.
More recently she was sent out in the second round at Wimbledon qualifying and had lost her opener at an ITF event just before this.
And hard court isn’t one of her favourite surface at any level of the sport anyway so that will make thing much more difficult for Sramkova.

Kvitova should have no difficulties in getting past Sramkova and making it to the second round especially given Sramkova’s difficulties at the highest level.
