Dusan Lajovic v Alex Molcan Head to Head

The pair have never met before. This will be the first match between the 31-year old Serb, and the Slovak, who is 6 years younger.

Two Years Since Lajovic’s Last Final

It has been two years since Lajovic reached his two ATP finals, finishing runner-up in the Monte Carlo Masters and winning the Croatia Open in 2019.

That same year he was part of the Serbian team that lost the Davis Cup final, although a few months later, he was also part of the team that won the inaugural ATP Cup.

Recent results for the Serb have been mixed, but he got his campaign in Hamburg off to a good start with a  comfortable first round victory over Lucas Pouille of France, the world number 101.

The first set went with serve, until the eighth game when Pouille had three break points. He could not take any of them, however, and his generosity came back to haunt him next game, as he was broken, Lajovic serving out for the set.

The second set followed a similar pattern, except that, this time, there was only one break point against serve, However, Lajovic ruthlessly converted it, and went on to clinch the match with his second match point.

Molcan, a Beaten Finalist in Serbia

Molcan is close to his all-time high world ranking, after enjoying something of a break-out year, reaching his first ever ATP senior career final in Serbia, where he lost to Novak Djokovic in the Belgrade Open.

And he followed that up last month by reaching the final of a Challenger event in the Czech Republic.

He successfully came through two rounds of qualifying in Hamburg to make the main draw, earning himself a match with Gianluca Mager of Italy, the world number 73.

It was the Italian who started the better, forcing the only break to take the first set.

The second set was dominated by serve but, with a tie-break looming, Molcan created three break points, converting the third of them to level the match.

Molcan twice had to save break points against him in the third set, which eventually went to a tie-break, But it was he who kept his nerve better in the breaker, especially when Mager dropped his serve with match point against him.

Lajovic v Molcan Prediction and Tip

The bookmakers actually make Molcan the slight favourite for this match, based on his recent exploits. However, the greater experience and form on the senior tour suggests that Lajovic will be the one advancing to the next stage of the competition.
