Eighth seed Anna Blinkova of Russia fought back from a set down to knock out Belarus’ Olga Govortsova in the first round of the Lausanne Open on Tuesday.
The Russian, ranked 82nd in the world, was broken twice in the first set, but she came back strongly to close out the match 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 in two hours and six minutes.
In all Blinkova conveted five of nine break points and saved seven of 11 to beat the World No. 124.
Having not been at her best this season, Blinkova will be looking to build on the start that she has got in Lausanne. She had come into the tournament with a 3-12 2021 record in the main draws.
The 2015 Wimbledon girl’s runner-up, Blinkova had reached a career-high ranking of 54 last year. She has not won a title on the tour, but won the WTA 125K title in New Haven two years ago.

Bronzetti Powers Past Sugnaux
World No. 241 Lucia Bronzetti of Italy needed just 68 minutes to overpower Switzerland’s Tess Sugnaux in the first round on Tuesday.
Broken once in the match, Bronzetti dominated the proceedings, converting seven of 14 break points for a 6-1, 6-0 win over the World No. 608.
This is the first time that the Italian is playing in the main draw of a WTA event in 2021. she has however played a lot at the ITF Circuit reach five finals this year and winning two of them.
Four of those finals this year were on clay, she won at Le Havre, but lost in Switzerland, Sweden and in Turin, Italy this month.
Blinkova v Bronzetti Prediction and Tip
Although Bronzetti has done really well at the lower level, she will find the going tough against the more experienced Blinkova. The Italian will give a fight, but expect the Russian to progress.
