Jordan Thompson v Maxime Cressy Head to Head

Jordan Thompson dropped just two games in his Round of 16 match, storming into the quarterfinals with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Japan’s Yuichi Sugita.
The Australian served eight aces, broke his opponent five times and saved both the break points that he faced in the match to wrap up the contest in an hour and 18 minutes.
Playing in Newport for the fourth time, this is the first time that Jordan has reached the quarterfinals of the tournament. He was knocked out in the first round in 2016 and in the second rounds in 2018 and 2019, the year he received a first-round bye.
Thompson improved to 8-4 on grass this year. A finalist at ‘s-Hertogenbosch in 2019, the 27-year-old Australian made it to the second round in Stuttgart and Halle and the quarterfinals in Mallorca. He also produced his best result at Wimbledon, reaching the third round, having never won a match in the previous four appearances.
On Tuesday, Thompson progressed to the second round after his Round of 32 opponent, Cedrik-Marcel Stebe of Germany, retired while trailing 4-5 in the first set.
Overall, Thompson is 14-13 in 2021 and will be aiming to reach the year’s first semifinal on Thursday.

Cressy Knocks out the Second Seed
Facing Thompson in the last eight will be Maxime Cressy, who knocked out the 2009 runner-up and second seed Sam Querrey in the second round on Wednesday.
Cressy out-aced the fellow American 16-10, to close out the one-hour-and-39-minute contest 6-4, 2-6, 6-2.
Both players had four break points in the match with Cressy converting three and saving two.
The 6’6″ Cressy, who had not won a tour-level match on grass before, has now won two at Newport and will be playing in his first ATP quarterfinal on Thursday.
The 24-year-old, who is 4-3 on the tour this year, had begun his Newport campaign with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Italy’s Paolo Lorenzi.
Thompson v Cressy Prediction and Tip
Thompson’s been in decent touch on grass and will look to keep the momentum going in the quarterfinal. Cressy too will come in with a lot of confidence having taken out Querrey. It’s going to be an interesting battle with Thompson edging past the American.
