Yep, that’s right, a player who was ranked 22nd in the world only last year, has fallen to outside the top 100 at the moment and that has been thanks to the paucity of victories at the highest level.
In fact, Pouille enters this competition on the back of six successive first round defeats and two other losses in the qualifiers of events. Some of these matches have obviously come against tougher opponents but Pouille’s lack of finishing would worry him.
Are there any positives to dig into? Well, it wasn’t too long ago he was on the verge of breaking into the top 20 and even in April, at Monte-Carlo Masters, Pouille had won a couple of rounds to make it to the third.
It would be a huge task to turn things around but those are the moments he will need to dig into to try and do that.

Martinez Inching Back up the Charts
Having begun the season ranked 86th on the ATP charts, Martinez had fallen away a little at the start of the year despite his third round appearance at Australian Open. Because other than that result, there were four tournaments between January and April where he fell in the opening rounds.
It’s after the tour switched over to clay that the results started getting better for Martinez. Couple of second round appearances at Estoril, Parma and Roland-Garros would have helped.
As did a third round appearance at Wimbledon before he made it to the second round at Bastad again.
Now facing a struggling Pouille, Martinez would back himself to put up a fight here, if not go on to win it.

Pouille has the better pedigree while Martinez in a better form. Going by the trends it’s not too difficult to back the latter but we believe Pouille has value at 7/4 against a player who is ranked just six places ahead of him.
