Diego Schwartzman v Karen Khachanov Head to Head

There have been three previous meetings between these players and Schwartzman has won two of those matches. On outdoor hard court surfaces, the head to head stands at 1-1 with both of those matches having come in 2017.

Schwartzman Eases Past Low-Ranked Opponents

Both of his first two opponents were those ranked outside the top 100 and Schwartzman wasted no time in getting past them to reach the third round.

After overcoming Juan Pablo Varillas in the first round 7-5, 6-4, it was the turn of the 20-year-old Tomas Machac to face the music as the 148th-ranked player fell to a 6-4, 7-5 loss in two hours and three minutes.

Schwartzman would have preferred to wrap up the contest quicker than he eventually did but was broken three times in the match – incidentally after facing three break-points.

That he managed to find himself 16 break-points on his opponent’s serve and won five of those makes for good reading but the Argentine will need to do a lot better in the third round.

Because up against him is an opponent who will take advantage of his low percentage of second serve points won – less than half of them – and the 31 unforced errors he committed over the two sets.

Khachanov Continues Wimbledon Form

Having reached the quarterfinal at Wimbledon, Khachanov has continued that run into these Tokyo Olympics by winning his first two rounds here.

The Russian, who was taken to three sets by Yoshihito Nishioka in the first round of this tournament, then sent James Duckworth packing in straight sets to reach the round of 16. The match lasted an hour and 25 minutes.

In fact it was Duckworth who drew first blood by breaking Khachanov in the fourth game of the opening set, only for the Russian to break back and draw level. In the 11th game then, Khachanov put enough pressure on his opponent to break him and then completed the set victory to love.

Taking advantage of a shocked Duckworth, Khachanov broke immediately in the second set, and before he knew it, Duckworth was broke for the second time. Khachanov completed the last rites by getting better of his opponent’s serve for the third time in the set and completing the victory.

He now faces Schwartzman in what could be a close and interesting battle.

Schwartzman v Khachanov Prediction and Tip

Who goes through to the last eight. Schwartzman is a clay-courter who has been helped by his draw so far while we believe Khachanov holds that edge and will make it through to the third round.
