Benoit Paire v Yasutaka Uchiyama Head to Head

Paire and Uchiyama had their only Tour meeting till date at the outdoor, hard-court event in Tokyo in 2019. The Frenchman was routed in straight sets in the tournament’s third round.

Paire With Strong Runs Recently

Currently ranked 49th in singles, Paire, after a series of early exits linked to his apparent bubble fatigue and growing aversion to closed-door events, especially in the wake of prize money reduction, seems to have lit the competitive fire in his belly again with quarter-final finishes at the German Open and Swiss Open.

Snapping a sequence of underwhelming returns, some of which seemed intended, going by his body language, Paire followed up the straight-set loss to Argentine Diego Schwartzman in his Wimbledon opener with a last-16 finish at the Braunschweig Challenger.

Taking the positives from that event, the 32-year-old Frenchman profited from a walkover in the opening clash to reach the quarter-finals at the German Open.

With the opening set in the first-round against Ricardas Berankis tied at 6-6, the Lithuanian broke down with an injury to concede the tie.

The Frenchman prevailed in an absorbing battle in his next against Peruvian Juan Pablo Varillas to set up a last-eight meeting with Federico Delbonis of Argentina.

Paire went down to the Argentine, but not before giving a good account of himself and taking the match to a decider.

He opened his Swiss Open with a clinical takedown of Slovakian Jozef Kovalik and reached the quarters by a virtue of a walkover from Dutchman Tallon Griekspoor in his next.

Just as he did in Germany, the Frenchman fought hard before losing to Norwegian Casper Ruud in the last eight. The strong finishes would have given him the confidence and belief to go deeper in Atlanta.

Uchiyama Went Down Fighting at Wimbledon

Currently sitting at 120 in singles rankings, Uchiyama, having cleared the qualifiers and reached the main draw at this year’s Wimbledon Championships, put in a lion-hearted effort in his first-round defeat against teen Spanish sensation Carlos Alcaraz.

Taking two sets off the Spaniard and the match to a decider, the 28-year-old Japanese star, however, couldn’t turn the result in his favour in the end.

He will open his Atlanta campaign on the back of a last-16 finish at Los Cabos and should fancy picking up some wins in the tournament.

Paire v Uchiyama Prediction and Tip

Having lost to rival ranked much lower than himself in their only previous meeting, expect Paire to come out all guns blazing against the Japanese and impose himself on the latter from the get-go.

Though the Frenchman isn’t a sure bet these days, he should fancy putting it past Uchiyama on current form and make the next round.
