Isner Serves Out Wolf

Five-time Atlanta Open champion John Isner began his 2021 campaign in style, serving 36 aces to edge out fellow American Jeffrey John Wolf in the first round.

Winning 80% first serve points and 85% second serve points, Isner surged ahead with a 6-4, 6-7 (3-7), 6-4 win in two hours and nine minutes. The 6’10” right-hander converted two of four break points and saved the only one that he faced in the match.

Wolf’s recovery in the second set may have pegged him back a bit, but it isn’t easy to beat the 36-year-old in Atlanta and the World No. 35 lived up to his reputation.

A 15-time champion on the tour, Isner was stunned by Brandon Nakashima in the semifinals in Los Cabos last week. He won the doubles crown though with partner Hach Verdugo.

Sock Wins Thriller Against Berankis

Jack Sock bounced back after losing the first set to move into the second round of the Atlanta Open.

Playing in just his second tournament on the tour this year, Sock found himself a set down after losing the first set tiebreak. But the American got an early break in the second and protected it till the end to force the decider.

Both held on to their serves in the first 10 games of the third, before a determined Sock got his nose in front with a break in the 11th. He showed no nerves in serving out the contest for a 6-7 (4-7), 6-4, 7-5 win in two hours and 51 minutes.

Pulled back by injuries and loss of form from a career-high ranking of No. 8 to a current ranking of 201, Sock is slowly making an impression on court again. He recently won a Challenger title in Little Rock and reached the quarterfinals of his first ATP tournament of the year in Newport.

Isner v Sock Prediction and Tip

With both players needing tough three-setters to see off their first-round opponents, this is expected to be another close contest. That said, a lot of factors will favour Isner, including his current form and dominance in Atlanta over the years. Expect three sets with Isner advancing.
