Jack Sock v Yoshihito Nishioka Head to Head

The pair have played each other three times before, and Sock leads their head-to-head series by two matches to one. Nishioka won their first match in Acapulco in 2017, but, a month later Sock got his revenge at the Miami Masters, and he also beat Nishioka in Newport last month.

Sock Enjoying Career Renaissance

Sock has been showing recent signs of the sort of form that once made him a top ten player and brought him four career titles but a loss of form and a long injury lay-off derailed his career.

At the Hall of Fame Open in Newport, Sock was given a wildcard into the main draw, and went on to reach his first senior quarter-final in a singles event since the 2018 Paris masters, beating Nishioka along the way, before eventually succumbing to Kevin Anderson in three events.

And, for good measure, although unseeded, eh and partner William Blumberg went on to win the doubles event, beating Austin Krajicek and Vasek Pospisil in the final.

Prior to his exploits in Newport, Sock had also won a Challenger tour event in Little Rock in June.

Nishioka Returning After Tokyo Disappointment

Nishioka comes to Washington from the Olympics where, deprived of the home support he would normally have expected, he suffered first-round defeat at the hands of Karen Khachanov, the Russian who went on to reach the final.

That was the latest in a series of disappointing losses for the man who is currently the top ranked Japanese player.

He has not been beyond the third round of any tournament he has entered in 2021, and has only got to that stage on three occasions – most recently in Parma in May.

It has been nearly three years since he won his solitary ATP title – the Shenzhen Open in September 2018.

Sock v Nishioka Prediction and Tip

Although Nishioka is the higher ranked player, Sock is on the comeback trail and beat him convincingly in Newport a few weeks ago. And he will be the fresher, whereas Nishioka has had to travel back from Japan.
