Juvan Broke into Top 100 Earlier This Year

Earlier this year Juvan broke into the top 100 for the first time, although she has since slipped back.

She had a successful junior career, reaching both the semi-finals of the girls’ singles at Wimbledon and the US Open double, and won the prestigious Orange Bowl event in 2016.

Juvan has yet to translate that form to the senior tour, although she has won seven ITF titles, all of them on her favourite surface of clay.

In February Juvan reached the third round of the Australian Open, her best showing in a Grand Slam to date, but then emulated that feat at Wimbledon, beating the (recently crowned) Olympic champion Belinda Bencic in the first round before eventually losing to the American Coco Gauff.

Last week she lost in the first round of a Challenger even in Belgrade.

She was runner-up in the Katowice Open in Poland in 2014, and she was also a beaten finalist with Elise Mertens in a tournament in Taiwan the previous year.

Singles-wise, she spends the vast majority of her time on the junior tours, and reached her first final in a year on the clay of Qeiras in Portugal in April. Losing to the Spaniard Maria Gutierrez Carrasco in  straight sets.

Her last tournament win was back in October 2019 in Hilton Head, the USA.

Melnikova tried, and failed to qualify for both the French Open and Wimbledon recently.

The last three appearances she has made on the WTA senior tour – in Hamburg, Lausanne and Gdynia, Poland have all resulted in first round defeats.
