Ilya Ivashka v Egor Gerasimov Head to Head

The head-to-head between Ivashka and Gerasimov is tied at 3-3. All six meetings before this were contested on the Challenger tour – the last of which was won by Gerasimov in Bratislava in 2019.

Ivashka Fell to Nishikori in Tokyo

Ilya Ivashka entered Tokyo Olympic Games as one of Belarus’ most potent players. There he upset the newlywed Gael Monfils in the first round, and then fought back from a set down to defeat Mikhail Kukushkin in the second.

In a tight first set that took an hour and 22 minutes to decide, Ivashka served for it but could not puncture Nishikori’s defenses. And in the tiebreak, he held two set points and once fell short. Those lapses in concentration in the set cost him big time.

Nishikori who was the more experienced of the two players, and playing on home soil cruised through after stealing the first set. He served a 6-0 set to end Belarusian hopes for a podium finish.

But even in exiting at the Olympics, Ivashka’s career trajectory is heading in the right direction. The second half has started brilliantly. He reached his first tour-level semifinal in Munich prior to the grass season. And on the lawns, two more milestones were accomplished.

Ivashka made first tour-level quarterfinal on the grass at Eastbourne, and just a few weeks later he blasted his way into the fourth round of the Wimbledon Championships losing to the eventual runner-up Matteo Berrettini.

Gerasimov Unimpressive in Tokyo

For Belarusian tennis, there was little to celebrate at the Olympics as their star name Aryna Sabalenka exited the event in the second round. Egor Gerasimov and Ilya Ivashka (a round later), also followed suit.

Gerasimov nearly a made a melee of his opening round match against the veteran Frenchman Gilles Simon. He dropped the first set, but had conserved plenty of energy in his reservoirs when the match extended into a third set. The 28-year-old escapaed, but he was unable to trouble Fabio Fognini for too long in the subsequent round.

Gerasimov has compiled a 12-15 record for the season so far, but considering he has done most of his good work in the early part of the season (winning seven matches), he will be looking for a deep run at these warm up tournamnets just before the US Open.

But the bad news for the World No. 79 is that he will be up against some of talented names who are looking for refine their games before the final Major of the 2021 season.

Ivashka v Gerasimov Prediction and Tip

Gerasimov is a year older than his compatriot, but has fallen down the pecking order as Belarus’ top-ranked male player. That honor now belongs to Ivashka who has utilized his imposing presence to good effect in recent months. We are backing the World No. 66 to pick up victory in Washington.
