Caroline Garcia v Emina Bektas Head to Head

Garcia Hoping to Find Some Spark in America

Former World No. 4 Caroline Garcia has had a pretty disappointing season so far on the tour – so much so that she has been knocked out of the top 50.

Her year is marked by a litany of early-round defeats with the exception of a few, promising runs. The 27-year-old had reached the third round in the Gippsland Trophy and WTA Dubai, before reaching the same stage in the Parma Open. Her best run, however, came in Lausanne right before the Tokyo Olympics, where she made it to the semifinal – only to lose to her compatriot Clara Burel.

Speaking of the Olympics, she had a disappointing campaign there as well having lost to Donna Vekic of Croatia in the first round. She incurred a similar defeat in doubles with Kristina Mladenovic, losing their opening match to the pairing of Kiki Bertens and Demi Schuurs.

That said, as a former top 10 player and holder of seven singles titles, she obviously has the goods to beat someone of Bektas’s stature.

Bektas, Making a Shift to WTA Circuit

Not a lot of tennis fans may have heard of the 29-year-old Emina Bektas and in all fairness, they can’t be faulted.

She has spent a good part of her career playing primarily on the ITF circuit – something which also explains her current singles ranking of #352. Between 2018 and now, Bektas has featured in just two WTA events, including the WTA Prague in July (she lost in the opening qualifying round).

The highlight of her season includes a runner-up trophy from ITF Santo Domingo. As a doubles player, however, the American has achieved a lot more with seven ITF doubles final appearances in 2021 alone – she went the distance in five of those.

In San Jose, Bektas started as a qualifier and had to beat Katie Volynets and Ellen Perez in three sets to reach the main draw.

Garcia v Bektas Prediction and Tip

Garcia will start as the favourite here. Even though she is out of sorts, she is facing a player who hasn’t been competing with the best of the best on the WTA Tour. While it may be too early to call how far the Frenchwoman will progress in the Silicon Valley Classic, it suffices to say that she should be able to defeat Bektas with ease.
