Felix Auger-Aliassime v Andreas Seppi Head to Head

In their sole encounter on the ATP Tour, Seppi defeated the young Canadian 6-3, 7-6(8), 4-6, 6-4 in the first round of the French Open 2021.

Aliassime Primed for a Deep Run

20-year-old Felix Auger-Aliassime will be pleased with the kind of season he has had so far. Currently ranked World No. 15 – his best singles ranking yet – the Canadian has made great leaps as a player on the ATP Tour in 2021.

He has reached two singles finals already this year – the Murray River Open in February and the Stuttgart Open in June. In both cases, he had to settle for runner-up trophies after losing his final bouts respectively to Dan Evans and Marin Cilic.

With that, Felix also reached the fourth round in the Australian Open and the quarterfinal at Wimbledon – a feat that speaks scores about his talent. Most recently, he featured in the Tokyo Olympics where he incurred a rather shocking exit in the opening round at the hands of Max Purcell.

With a win-loss tally of 24-15 and a pretty decent season overall, the Canadian will certainly fancy his chances in the North American leg of the ATP Tour. Over here in the Citi Open, he is starting as the number two seed with a bye into the second round.

Seppi Survives Uchiyama

Former top 20 player Andreas Seppi had to fend a very determined Yasutaka Uchiyama in the opening round of the Washington Open. The match went into three sets and saw the Italian win with 3-6, 7-5, 6-3.

His year so far can be summarised with a win-loss tally of 4-8 with his best run coming in the Eastbourne International, where he reached the quarters as a qualifier.

The 37-year-old also featured in a few ITF events and ended up winning the title in Biella, Italy. That was Seppi’s first title of any kind since September 2019.

He arrived in Washington on the back of opening-round defeats in Los Cabos and Atalanta before finally finding some solid footing here. Interestingly, he hasn’t made it past the second round in any other ATP event (apart from Eastbourne) in 2021 so it will be interesting to see how he fares against Auger-Aliassime.

Auger-Aliassime v Seppi Prediction and Tip

The Canadian will start as the favourite and should do well to reach the third round. Seppi may have gotten the better of him in Paris but this being a familiar turf for Auger-Aliassime, it is unlikely for him to deliver the upset once again.
