Alison Riske v Ana Konjuh Head to Head

The head to head tally is tied at 1-1 although, they last met in the 2016 Cincinnati Open qualifiers. Riske won that match in three sets.

Konjuh Overcomes Bouzkova

Ana Konjuh’s path to the resurgence in America started with a 7-5, 3-6, 7-5 win over Marie Bouzkova in the first round. Playing as a qualifier, the young Croat fought the Czech to stay on the course to win her first singles trophy in more than six years.

Once a top 20 player destined to go even further, Konjuh’s career was sidetracked by health concerns, subsequently followed by spending time off the WTA Tour. As a result, she fell out of the top 500 and has been working relentlessly since to find her former footing.

Her efforts are starting to pay off – since the start of the tour in January, the 23-year-old has leapt more than 400 ranking spots to attain her current ranking of #116. That said, Konjuh still has a long way to go as she continues to battle the lack of form and momentum.

Her most notable runs of the season include a fourth-round appearance in the Miami Open and a runner-up feat in the Serbia Open. In her last two tournaments in Budapest and Hamburg, she was beaten right in the early rounds.

Riske Seeking Reprieve on Home Turf

With a win-loss tally of 2-7 this year, it is safe to say that world number 37 is not having the best of the time on the WTA Tour.

In addition to missing out on quite a bit of action early in the season, Alison Riske has incurred a bunch of opening-round defeats in a majority of her tournaments. The best she could manage was a third-round appearance in the Viking Open Nottingham.

In her preceding two tournaments of the Wimbledon and the Tokyo Olympics, she fell in the opening round respectively to Tereza Martincova and Mihaela Buzarnescu. Here in San Jose, Riske managed to better those results by beating her compatriot Coco Vandeweghe in the opener in straight sets.

Konjuh v Riske Prediction and Tip

Riske may be the superior player here on account of her ranking but Konjuh is looking sharp and determined to win. She has worked hard this season and has got a fair bit of momentum heading into this game.

We’re backing a win for the Croatian qualifier here.
