Veronika Kudermetova v Yulia Putintseva Head to Head

Veronika Kudermetova and Yulia Putintseva have been involved in just one career, head-to-head meeting so far. The pair came to battle each other in the third round of the St. Petersburg Open last year. Though, the Russian came out a winner in the end, she was made to work mighty hard for it.

Kudermetova Coming off Wimbledon Opening Loss

Very much in the cream of the current crop of Russian women tennis stars, 24-year-old Kudermetova couldn’t better her Australian Open run or brief Roland-Garros outing for that matter at this year’s Wimbledon Championships.

Currently ranked 32nd in singles, the Russian went down fighting to Viktorija Golubic of Switzerland in the opening round at All England.

Even in the run-up to Wimbledon, Kudermetova ran up a series of humble returns from the grass-court swing, falling in the tournament opener at Eastbourne to American Alison Riske and in the last-16 of the Berlin grass court event to Ludmilla Samsonova.

However, she did have a much more fulfilling run on clay this year, lifting her maiden Tour title at Charleston. The Russian followed up her title run in the US city with a semifinal finish at Istanbul and run to the last-16 at Madrid and Rome.

Playing her first tournament since the disappointment at All England, Kudermetova has an opportunity to find her bearings on hard court ahead of the all-important US Open.

However, in Putintseva, she faces a tricky opponent in her opening clash at Canadian Open.

Putintseva Lifts Season’s First Tour Title

Rising from the disappointment of a second-round exit at the Wimbledon Championships, Putintseva stormed her way to a championship showdown with Anhelina Kalinina of Ukraine in hard-court event in Hungary.

She routed the Ukrainian 6-4, 6-0 to lift only her second career Tour title.

Currently placed at 35th in singles, the Kazakh star followed up her Hungarian success with a quarter-final finish at the Silicon Valley Classic.

After racking up impressive wins over Croatian Donna Vekic and this year’s Wimbledon quarterfinalist Ajla Tomljanovic, Putintseva went down to Belgian Elise Mertens in the last eight.

The run of impressive results in the past weeks will stand her in good stead as she launches her Canadian Open campaign against Kudermetova.

Kudermetova v Putintseva Prediction and Tip

Both Kudermetova and Putintseva have a title apiece this season and will fight on an equal footing in this absorbing opening-round clash at the Canadian Open.

Though it won’t be an easy choice for a betting person, the recent run of results would, perhaps, put Putintseva slightly ahead in the race.
