Alison Riske v Sorana Cirstea Head to Head

Both veterans on the women’s Tour, Alison Riske and Sorana Cirstea have been involved in as many as seven career head-to-head meetings till date, with the latter holding a marginal 4-3 lead over the former.

Riske Coming off Round of 16 Appearance

Following her opening-round loss to Czech rival Tereza Martincova at the Wimbledon Championships, Riske fared slightly better at the Silicon Valley Classic, finishing in the last 16.

The American prevailed in straight sets in the tournament opener against compatriot Coco Vandeweghe before being routed by Croatian Ana Konjuh in the round-of-16 clash.

Riske has had the run of results going her way this season. She ran up a sequence of underwhelming performances since crashing out in the opening round at Australian Open after losing to Russian Anastasia Potapova in straight sets.

At her next Tour outing, she was swatted in straight sets by Iga Swiatek at the Madrid Open. The American followed up her crushing exit in the Spanish capital by conceding her Rome opener to the same opponent.

Two more last-16 finishes at Nottingham and Eastbourne brought her to All England with her confidence partly restored. However, the first-round defeat at Wimbledon set her back in her quest to salvage the season.

The Canadian Open does present an opportunity to haul her season back on the rails but she opens against an old rival, who leads her, albeit by a slender margin, in head-to-head count.

Cirstea Makes Round Three at Wimbledon

Following up on an impressive fourth-round finish at Roland-Garros, Cirstea fell in the third round at this year’s Wimbledon Championships.

Currently ranked 40th in singles, the seasoned Romanian opened her All England campaign with a comfortable win over Samatha Murray of Great Britain before pulling off a stunning upset of two-time Grand Slam champion Viktoria Azarenka in the second round.

However, she couldn’t get over the line against the red-hot Emma Raducanu, the surprise package at this year’s Championships, in the third round.

Playing her first event since Wimbledon, she would fancy going deep at the Canadian Open but faces an engaging opening clash against Riske.

Riske v Cirstea Prediction and Tip

Though Cirstea currently holds a slight head-to-head lead over Riske, the American, with three career wins against the Romanian, is quite capable of going level with her on this score in Canada.
