Amanda Anisimova v Oceane Dodin Head to Head

86th-ranked Anisimova and 109th-ranked Dodin have not played each other at any level before this.

Anisimova Advances After Martincova Retirement

19-year-old Amanda Anisimova advanced into the second round of the National Bank Open after her opponent Tereza Martincova retired while the American led 6-1 4-3 after 42 minutes.

The 2019 French Open semifinalist won 82% first-serve points (dropping just five points) and broke the Czech four times from eight opportunities before Martincova called it quits after having abdominal discomfort for nearly the whole match.

Anisimova who is ranked 86th in the world had to navigate her way into the main draw by winning two qualifying matches – over Maddison Inglis and fellow 19-year-old Kamilla Rakhimova.

Prior to this week’s event in Montreal, Anisimova was 9-11 for the season. She had failed to win successive matches in 10 of her last 12 tournaments on the WTA tour. But after garnering three successive wins in Canada, she admitted that her confidence has been repaired slightly, and will look to keep up this streak.

Will she do that against another qualifier in the form of Oceane Dodin?

Dodin Stuns Muchova

Oceane Dodin stunned the number 14 seed Karolina Muchova in just under two hours to win 6-3 1-6 6-2. Muchova was making her first appearance in over a month and produced a lackluster performance.

In fairness, the match itself was not a spectacle and both players were uninspiring for fluctuating periods. Dodin accounted for 34 unforced errors (Muchova 32), and neither player attained 60% of first-serve points.

Dodin’s high-risk approach yielded 25 winners and saw her conjure up to 12 breakpoints (converting four of them). The 24-year-old overcame a whopping 10 double faults from her serve to secure her spot in the second round of the Canadian Open.

Overall, the French qualifier just about shaded it in the most important moments in the match. She won 83 total points to Muchova’s 75, and it was clear that once the set went the distance, the Czech’s lack of match practice in recent weeks would come at a cost.

Anisimova v Dodin Prediction and Tip

Dodin scored a fine win over World No. 23 Karolina Muchova, but still remains wildly inconsistent. She will need to improve in many aspects (including her deteriorating first serve) to beat an improving Anisimova.
