Aslan Karatsev v Karen Khachanov Head to Head

Khachanov won their only tour-level meeting in St. Petersburg last year. He also holds a 2-1 lead from their lower level meetings.

Karatsev Has Lost Form Lately

A semifinal appearance at the Australian Open on his Grand Slam debut, a first career title in Dubai, a runner-up finish in Belgrade, wins of Novak Djokovic, Daniil Medvedev and Diego Schwartzman on clay – Karatsev saw unprecedented success in the first five months of 2021.

But he seems to have lost form over the last couple of months. The 27-year-old Russian hasn’t won two matches in a row since Rome, and comes in with a 3-5 record from the past five tournaments, which includes the Olympics, where Karatsev beat Tommy Paul but lost to Jeremy Chardy.

Currently ranked 24th in the world, the Russian has a 24-12 record this year.

He will be desperately hoping to get back to the levels which shot him to fame in the first half of the season.

Khachanov Edges Past Norrie

In what was one of the toughest matches of the first round, Karen Khachanov defeated Britain’s Cameron Norrie 6-4, 5-7, 6-4 to advance to the second round of the competition.

The World no. 28 saved eight of 10 break points and converted three of seven on his way to winning the two-hour-and-35-minute battle.

Khachanov is the form player, fresh from his remarkable achievement at the Olympics, where he reached the final but had to satisfy with silver after falling to Alexander Zverev in the gold-medal match. He also made it to his maiden Wimbledon quarterfinal and improved to 10-2 since the start of the third Grand Slam of the year.

The Tokyo defeat was the Russian’s first loss in a top-level final. Overall, Khachanov has a 25-16 record this year and he is 15-7 on his preferred surface- the hard courts.
