Cristian Garin v John Isner Head to Head

Garin has a 2-0 record against Isner, defeating the towering American in straight sets at the Canadian Open and the Paris Masters in 2019.

Garin Yet to Win on Hard Courts This Year

A clay court specialist, Garin doesn’t have a solid record on hard courts and has barely played on the surface this year, coming in with a 0-2 record. But despite the stat he will fancy his chances against Isner, whom he beat at the Rogers Cup two years ago.

Overall, the World No. 20 has an 18-12 record in 2021, which includes a fifth career title that he won by beating Facundo Bagnis in the Santiago final.

The 25-year-old also delivered his best Grand Slam results this year, reaching the fourth rounds of the French Open and Wimbledon.

Having made it to the Round of 16 in Toronto in 2019, Garin will be eager to at least match his previous result, but with little experience on hard courts this year, he may find the going tough in the earlier rounds.

Isner Breezes Past Davidovich Fokina

John Isner served 19 aces as he breezed past Spain’s Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the first round in Toronto.

Ranked 30th in the world, the 6’10” American won 77% first-serve points and broke his opponent four times for a 6-4, 6-1 win in 65 minutes.

A semifinalist in 2012 and a quarterfinalist in 2015, Isner is playing in the tournament for the 11th time. Tuesday’s win improved him to 17-7 in what has been a successful year for the American, who lifted his 16th career title by beating Brandon Nakashima in the final in Atlanta two weeks ago.

He is 11-4 on hard courts this year and has a great chance of getting his first win over Garin.

Garin v Isner Prediction and Tip

Isner is in exceptional form, while Garin doesn’t have too much of experience on hard courts. The Chilean did get both his wins over Isner on the surface, but a hat-trick seems unlikely. Expect Isner to keep his winning streak going, he has now won six in a row.
