Elina Svitolina v Johanna Konta Head to Head
There have been four previous meetings between these two players on the WTA tour and one on the ITF circuit and Svitolina has won each time. All of these matches came on hard court surfaces.

It wasn’t the easiest route to a bronze medal at the 2020 Olympics for Svitolina, who had to fight through three, three-setters to make it to quarterfinal. There she then defeated Camila Giorgi before overcoming Elena Rybakina in the match for the third place.
Earlier Svitolina had defeated Laura Siegemund, Ajla Tomljanovic and Maria Sakkari as well.
And it’s not just her bronze at the Tokyo Olympics which would cheer Svitolina up given her record in hard court tournaments this year.
Earlier this season, Svitolina has already clinched a place in the quarterfinal at Abu Dhabi, made a fourth round appearance at Australian Open and was a semifinalist in Miami.

Konta Benefits from Zhang Injury
Returning to the sport after a couple of months of layoff, Konta did not have the easiest of starts to the US Open Series but came through her first round match against Shuai Zhang after her opponent suffered a fitness scare.
Konta was down a set but 5-2 up in the second when her opponent retired from the match giving the Brit just her third hard court win of the season.
Such has been Konta’s own issues with fitness and form, she would take it gladly, having lost four of her seven matches in hard court tournaments and three out of four on clay.
The only silver lining in all of this has been her form on grass on which the Brit won Nottingham Open before opting out of Wimbledon and the other tournaments.
Can that give her some encouragement coming into this one against Svitolina? It looks difficult for the British number one.
