Aryna Sabalenka v Rebecca Marino Head to Head

Sabalenka Made to Work Hard by Stephens

The top seed in this competition, Sabalenka had a first round bye and was expected to scythe through her second round opponent Sloane Stephens.

Instead she was in for a surprise as the American came back from a tie-breaker loss in the first set to level the match and push it into a decider.

And when Stephens then took a 3-0 and later, a 4-2 lead in the final set, the writing looked to be on the wall for the Belarusian, as she struggled to find an opening past the American.

It was in the seventh game of the decider that Sabalenka finally managed to turn things around, breaking Stephens to 15 and following it up with another break in the ninth game. And while Sabalenka then faced a break-point of her own as she served for the match, she quickly extinguished that possibility, and held out to clinch the encounter.

Life should get a lot simpler now against the wild-card.

Marino Slowly Turning Back Time

Having first played competitive tennis nearly a decade and half ago, Marino retired from the sport in 2013. And here she is, back in a bid to claw back close to her best which at her peak in 2011 was a world number 38 for her efforts.

Marino, awarded a wildcard for this tournament, has already sent out two huge favourites.

In her opener, Marino shocked Madison Keys in straight sets despite having started out at 16/5 odds. What she did in the second round was even more special.

Coming up against Paula Badosa, a 1/5 favourite in their meetings, Marino fell a set behind after winning just one game in the opener. However, if one thought that would be the end of her journey in this competition, Marino came back to break early, and then again after Badosa had levelled things out.

Forcing a decider, Marino then broke Badosa twice, shocking the 31st-ranked and in-form Spaniard.

Can she show the same tenacity against Sabalenka?

Sabalenka v Marino Prediction and Tip

On paper and despite Marino’s shock results, one has to go with Sabalenka here but not before her opponent puts up a solid showing. Expect this to have a few games in the contest.

Tip: Over 18.5 games in the match: 8/11 (Click Here to Bet with bet365)
