Frances Tiafoe v Ugo Humbert Head to Head
Frances Tiafoe and Ugo Humbert are currently tied at 1-1 in head-to-head battles. Their last meeting in the quarter-finals at Delray Beach last year saw the Frenchman prevailing in straight sets.

After launching the hard court swing leading up to the US Open with a defeat to fellow American Jenson Brooksby in the opening round at Washington Open, Tiafoe fared decidedly better in Toronto.
After clearing the qualifiers and sealing passage to the main draw at the Canadian Open with relative ease, the stockily-built American cleared the first hurdle in the tournament proper with an upset of good friend and this year’s Wimbledon semifinalist Denis Shapovalov.
Imposing himself on the Canadian from the get-go, Tiafoe cruised to a win in the opening set and dominated the run of play in the second as well to take down the home favorite 6-1, 6-4.
The win set him up for a last-16 outing against veteran French star Gael Monfils.
Against the Frenchman, however, Tiafoe couldn’t produce an encore of his stunning upset win in the opening round and emerged second-best in a straight-set finish.
Though Monfils took the opening set in a breeze, the American staged a spirited fightback to take the second to a tiebreak.
However, he couldn’t take the match to a deciding set as the Frenchman brought his vast experience into play to pip the feisty American in the tiebreak.
Against Ugo Humbert in the Cincinnati opener, Tiafoe faces another tricky French rival who lifted his maiden ATP 500 title at Halle this year and nearly took down maverick Australian Nick Kyrgios in the opening round at Wimbledon Championships.

Humbert Fell to Tsitsipas in Round Three Last Week
Playing his first tournament since his spirited show at Wimbledon, Humbert launched his Canadian Open campaign with an emphatic takedown of Italian Lorenzo Sonego.
However, he couldn’t seal his passage to the last 16 against Stefanos Tsitsipas as the current World No.3 had his revenge for the defeat to the Frenchman at the Tokyo Olympics.
However, even in defeat, Humbert had his moments against the long-haired Greek as after going down tamely in the opening set, he showed true grit and resolve to win the second in an epic tiebreak and take the match to a decider.
In the final set, however, it was all Tsitsipas as he overwhelmed and outgunned the Frenchman to grind out a 6-3, 6-7 (13-15), 6-1 win.
Against Tiafoe, Humbert will open his Cincinnati sojourn against an opponent who has the momentum from Toronto with him and is tough to dislodge on his day.
Tiafoe v Humbert Prediction and Tip
Both players are evenly matched in terms of skill and experience and there isn’t much, on the evidence of the recent run of results and the head-to-head record, to put one over the other in this opening-round battle.
However, Tiafoe will have the home crowd behind him as he seeks to upstage Humbert.
