Yastremska in Need of Match Time
Following her suspension from the WTA circuit, Dayana Yastremska has been unable to get herself on the match court until the 8th of July this year, resulting in 8 months away from the circuit.
The Ukrainian is currently 3-3 since her return with her most notable result coming in Hamburg, where she made the semi-finals, defeating Frech and Errani in straight sets along the way, before losing out to Ruse in 3-sets: 2-6 6-1 6-4.
Dayana, now ranked 50th in the rankings, then failed to win an opening round match, going home early at the Olympics, in San Jose and Montreal, narrowly losing out in 3-set encounters against Fernandez, Liu, and Stephens.
Yastremska got back to winning ways Yesterday on the American hard courts, successfully seeing off home favourite McNally in straight sets 7-6(3) 7-6(1). The 21-year-old managed to successfully win 81% of her first serve points and 46% of return points.
She handled the pressure well in the tiebreaks, dropping just 4 points to set up a tie with the standout player of 2021: Barbora Krejcikova.
