Karolina Pliskova v Paula Badosa Head to Head

In their one and only encounter on the WTA Tour, Pliskova was the winner although, that match took place over six years ago in the 2015 WTA Miami Open.

Pliskova Marches on in Cincinnati

Yet to drop a set in the Western & Southern Open, Karolina Pliskova enjoyed a bye into the second round and reached the quarterfinal without any difficulties.

In the opener, she faced Yulia Putintseva and knocked her out with 6-3, 6-2. In the third round, she faced Jessica Pegula – a player to whom she had previously lost no less than four times already in 2021.

But the World No. 4 dug into her roots and handed the American a straight-set defeat with 6-4, 7-6(5) to avenge one of her many losses. Pliskova now faces Badosa and by the looks of it, she is in for a challenging affair.

Pliskova’s form in the last few tournaments has been nothing short of brilliant. Keeping aside her third-round exit in the Olympics, she reached consecutive finals in Wimbledon and Canadian Open. A few weeks before that run in SW19, the 29-year-old was also the finalist in the Madrid Open.

Badosa Continues to Impress

23-year-old Paula Badosa continues to enjoy her breakthrough season.

She is currently the World No. 29 – her best singles ranking yet – and has certainly got the potential to move up further.

What is more impressive is the resilience with which the Spaniard has marked her progress in Cincinnati. In the first round, she faced Petra Martic and won a scintillating three-set match with 4-6, 6-4, 7-6(9). It is also worth mentioning that Badosa saved five match points against the Croat.

Thereafter, she met the number three seed Aryna Sabalenka and moved past her with 5-7, 6-2, 7-6(4) although this time around, she looked a lot more confident.

In the third round, things got easy for her as she defeated Elena Rybakina in straight sets.

Badosa’s key moments of 2021 include semifinal appearances in WTA Charleston and Madrid, the title run in Serbia Ladies Open, and a quarterfinal run in the French Open. She also made it to the fourth round in Wimbledon and the Olympics.

Over the course of the season, she has beaten several top players like Iga Swiatek, Belinda Bencic, Barbora Krejcikova, and Ashleigh Barty. The Spanish player has obviously got the means to deliver yet another upset in Cinci.

Pliskova v Badosa Prediction and Tip
